Another happy air horn customer...
Well, like many of you, I decided to take the plunge and get some air horns. If you have not done this mod, do it! Air horns rock.
Here is the breakdown of why I got them:
60% for giant semi-trucks merging into my lane on the freeway
25% for people that cut me off
5% for livestock while off-roading
5% for people that dont go on green
5% because louder is better, and now I know I'm cool
Seriously though, they are a breeze to install. I got mine at Checker Auto for $29 including tax. They are FIAMM's under a different name. The compressor says "Made in Italy" on it.
Here are some pics of where I mounted them. The wiring is straight forward. Make sure you have good ground points.
BTW, I left one of the two stock horns hooked up (passenger side). This will serve as my back-up horn if the air compressor fails. It will also serve as a not so abrupt "love beep" at other drivers.

You can actually use the existing plug (to one of the stock horns) as a "hot" lead to the relay. It plugs right in.
So really, the hardest part is finding a good mounting point for everything within the limitations of the wiring.
Like I mentioned in a previous thread, it kinda feels like you have a missle launcher on the roof or something.

I was playing just 10 min ago with same horns, just in chrome still sitting on garage floor.
Did you try just the big horn hooked up? It sounds a little better without the small one I think. Sounded just as loud but a lower tone.
Also, how many AMPs does your pump say?

Funny, the first time I'm running into a mod that (seems like) everyone's talking about and I already have it
Lots of fun to play with - although I'm debating maybe getting longer trumpets for a deeper sound
I didn't think about it until I was next to a semi at a red and the person in front didn't see it turn green.

My air pump is rated 40amps! It should be ok for honking, but I'm not sure it would not be a good idea if the alarm goes off and starts up that pump for a good while.
How exactly does the factory horn work? Always on +12v to one side of the stock horn and the contacts in the steering wheels grounds it? No relays? How does the factory alarm trigger the horn?
