Another dumb idea, but it works!
It is Bass Derby time again here on Martha's Vineyard and everyone is out there trying to land the big one... and win the Whaler. I don't want to scratch my precious truck when I strap my rods to it and after a while it beomes a PITA to do it. I also don't want to buy one of those HD aluminum safari racks that holds three dozen rods and 24 cu ft freezer chest (+$200). When I throw my rods in the back and let them stick out the rear window they slide around and get all scratched up. What to do?
I went down to my plumbing supply store and bought a 6' length of 1.25" foam pipe insulation. For my purpose, I cut it to 43", put my window down about 1/3 of the way and cupped the sleeve over the glass. It worked! I did not and will not peel of the protective film that covers the adhesive used to seal the sleeve around a length of pipe, and if I do I will clean off the adhesive from the foam.
Well, I have got to get back out on the Jetty.
