Annoying noise from the engine bay

Hi guys

I'm looking for a quick fix to seal up the gap between the steering arm and the rubber that is supposed to seal the noise from the engine bay from reaching the cabin.. (coming through the firewall).

hope you get what I mean, I think I can do the same with the clutch pedal, and If you know of any other holes in there where sound can pass through I would thank you for that

I held my hand around the steering arm.. to block the rubber, and a lot less sound got through .. so I know the rubber is "leaking" sound.

Thanks !! I look so forward to fixing this !!

And the noise is mostly a tick ..

... from the exhaust gas escaping between the exhaust header and the head.. Just a little bit but enaugh to make that Tick sound when I accelerate. I've tried fixing it but no luck

It's a insulating, heat resistant wrap. It'll probably do well around the steering shaft. Or get some polyurethane foam for the gap. It expands to fill gaps. Just spray a little in and let it expand. Takes about 24 hours to cure. Make sure to leave the vehicle in a heated garage since you're in Iceland.

As for the manifold leak, you'll need to put new manifold gaskets in.

You want the steering shaft gasket that mounts to the firewall. You have to undo the steering shaft and slide the gasket over the steering shaft and mount it. I have the part somewhere for my "to do" list. I'll see if I can find it and pull the PN or you.

On my truck (a 1990) I just removed the u-joint that connects the tilt steering assembly to the steering shaft. When you take the two bolts out of the u-joint that clamp it to the shafts you can slide the joint down until it clears the upper shaft, bend the u-joint 90 degrees and then slide it off the lower shaft. I removed the stock firewall seal, cut out the remaining rubber in the center, and used some HD motorcycle innertube to make a new seal that clamps to the firewall with the old seal frame. Don't make the hole in the rubber too big so there's a nice seal. I greased the shaft to eliminate friction/binding. I don't know if yours is the same. But, if it is I hope this helps.

PS - I was going to use some thick neoprene instead of the HD innertube material. But, I'm fresh out of neoprene scraps.
