Amber or Clear Fogs
I'm hoping you guys can help me decide on some fog lights. I'm thinking about some Hella 500's but can't decide between clear or amber. What are the pros/cons of each. Is one better for certain situations than the other? I don't do a lot of off roading. Mainly want some added light in bad weather or on dark, remote roads. I'm sort of leaning toward the amber because they are different. What do you all think? Thanks so much.

Amber are better in bad weather (snow, rain, fog) as they offer less glare. Clear/white are more for people who use them all the time (i.e. at night, regardless of weather) as they are easier on the eyes of other drivers, IMO.

Get both
The yellow/amber are great in the rain/snow/fog--and clear are great at night. You could put the amber down low and the hella's on the bumper. You might want to check out the lightforce products--everybody raves about them and you can focus them like a maglight.

PIAA Ion Fogs are the best of both worlds for fogs. Ion coating converts white light to amber with no loss of power. Amber lenses sap alot of the candlepower.

I have a very hard time believing that. All the marketing crap PIAA does about 55w=85w and ion coating crap has been, from my expierence, a steaming pile of BS. Their 55w bulbs aren't any brighter than the 55w walmart bulbs I run. I'm not a big fan of PIAA (and I'll never buy another PIAA product) because I think they do a lot of misleading marketing. That pisses me off.
Just my $.02. Again, Cebby - not a shot at you, a shot at PIAA.

I should have clarified what I typed. I basically regurgitated the PIAA marketing hype. Not sure I believe anything the companies tell us.
I have the Ion fog 520's. Are they brighter than fogs with amber lenses? I have no idea, buy they are pretty bright for a 55w lamp. I used to have the Ion projectors with 85w bulbs - those things were really bright, again - for a fog lamp. I'd still have them except they are undermount models that didn't work with my current set up. Another forum member is enjoying them now.
