Alternate method for replacing steering rack bushings
2001, v6, 4wd, auto
So I crawled under the truck today to get the bushings swapped out. Got all the bolts off the rack and went to remove the drivers side tie rod and could not get the bugger out. I did not want to mess it up because it is not bad and I do not want to replace a good part. So I hemmed and hawed for a bit and it hit me.... With the rack free, fire up the motor and crank the wheel to the left. The rack moved towards the drivers side and from there I was able to pull it rearward and get everything done.

I presume you were looking to remove the tie rod since the truck was not in the air? I've done this job twice without touching the tie rods.
