Alt. dead on 2nd gen.- new one dead, too?
On my wife's 91 4R 3.0, it died on her in traffic while she was driving. I jumped it and it ran a few minutes and died. Got home and checked the alt. output post and nothing. Installed a new alternator and have no voltage out of the alt. output post. WTF? The 80A alt. fuse is good and the connector in the rear of the alt is on tight. Is there some gizmo somewhere that keeps the alt. from charging? It's internal regulated, right? My next step is to get the alt. checked to see if the new one is dead. I charged the batt. before running the new alt. I don't get it. Please help.

My alternator just died like 5 days ago. I just ordered brushes for mine and its charging fine now. Maybe you should take it into the place where you bought it and have them to test it. May have gotten a bad one...but the brushes I ordered was a toyota part and was direct bolt up versus the auto parts store brushes where you have to solder them in. Plus it saved me $140!

Thanks for the info. I paid $130. for a alt. at Checker with a lifetime warr. If it checks out OK, there must be a problem with the signal wire in the back connector I guess. Any more ideas?
