all of sudden the check engine light
I already searched for other check engine light threads, but none of them were for an 89 'runner.
so the light comes on while im on the highway at like 57mph. i checked fluids and the usual. but it is still on. i have read that on others that the trucks has the problem stuck in memory and still displays it even though its fixed. plus i hear about O2 censors and stuff, is that applicable to my 89?? i am not sure of all electronics that i have.
i do have 216k mi on it. is it just a standard procedure to have the light come on at a certain mile mark??
i have a friend that was a yota tech for 14 years. but i cant talk to him till monday. so hopefully you guys out there can calm me down.

You need to find out what the code is, to do this under your hood next to your fuse box there is a diagnostic connector, take a paperclip and jump "te" & "E1", turn your ignition key to on but do not start, count the times your check engine light flashes, example ** short pause * would be a code 21 then there will be a longer pause and the code will either repeat itself or go onto the next code if you have more than one code. If the check emgine flashes real fast you have no codes. And no, the light doesn't come on at a set mileage. I'd say it's your TPS - Code 34 if I remember!
Good Luck!
