UPDATED! 3-16-08
Ok, I have been searching for the last few weeks for all the mods that there are out there for the 3rd gen 4runners. After all that searching I have come to a few conclusion: We need a thread that has a list of ALL the Mods for 3rd Gens! So I am starting this thread as an index of mod/parts/upgrades/maintenance items? that can/should be done to 3rd gens. Who knows, if we get a complete list the mods just might sticky this for future modders... Here is what I want to do: Post the name/description of the mod that you know of for 3rd gens, Rules: You MUST post a link to what the mod is / why it is good / how to do it. Something that will tell people what it is you are talking about and how to do it. I will update this first post with the mods as they are put up so that people don?t have to read all the way through the thread to see them all. Ok, here are the ones I have and will start it off with! Whole lot of mods on one site done to a 2nd gen but a lot can be done on a 3rd gen as well. Well worth a look.: http://pnw4runners.com/tando/modpics.htm Interior Mods: Replace Dash lights - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=70183 Cup holder mod (96-98 models) - http://www.4runners.org/writeups/cupholder/index.html Rear Cargo Box and Sleeping Platform http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=76673 Rear cargo, tire holder: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=557102 Low Profile Cargo Box 3rd Gen: http://www.yotatech.com/f2/low-profi...rd-gen-126267/ Auxiliary fuse box (done on a 2nd gen but the basics work on a 3rd gen)http://www.yotatech.com/f127/auxilia...4runner-75190/ Add Accessory Outlets (12v) http://www.yotatech.com/f127/adding-...4runner-75185/ Illuminated Cup Holders http://www.yotatech.com/f2/illuminat...olders-134903/ Power Inverter http://www.yotatech.com/f123/install...r-pics-108864/ Gauge and dash backlighting http://www.yotatech.com/f2/gauge-das...ghting-117226/ Exterior Mods: Side marker lights ? http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75843 Backup light install - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75744 Disable DRL - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75269 Fog lights - http://www.top4runners.com/ja/electrical.html#fogmod Adding Rubber Fender Flare Trim to Black Plastic SR5 Flares: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75761 herculined rockers/sliders/bumper: http://www.yotatech.com/f2/herculine...sliders-81582/ Rear defroster kit for sale from here: http://www.frostfighter.com/ff_pdt_2600.htm Silblade Silicone Windshield wiper blades http://www.yotatech.com/f2/review-si...runner-133149/ Running Board Removal, Mud Flap Installation http://www.yotatech.com/f129/running...3rd-gen-75328/ HID Bi-xenon retrofit http://www.yotatech.com/f2/hid-bi-xe...w-pics-133563/ Performance Mods: Throttle body cleaning - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=76368 Thermostat - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=76346 Dino to Syn swap- http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=76318 Engine temp sensor mod - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75163 The deckplate mod - http://www.wattora.com/index.php?page_id=10 Intake Silencer Removal (ISR): For '96-'98: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=74837 For '99-'02: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75168 Marlin Crawler Shifter Bushings (5-Speed): http://www.brian894x4.com/Shifter.html Throttle Body Bore and "O" Gasket mods: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.p...t=o+gasket+mod Throttle body coolant bypass http://www.customtacos.com/forum/sho...body+coo lant Transmission cable tightening, IPT Upgrade http://www.yotatech.com/f2/transmiss...arounds-86978/ Valve body shims http://www.yotatech.com/f2/speedys-s...9/index27.html Speedys supercharger threads: http://www.customtacos.com/forum/showthread.php?t=97198 http://www.yotatech.com/f2/speedy-s-...thread-111739/ Deck plate mod & internal snorkel mod http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=46043 Audio Mods: Speakers install - http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=76319 power antenna Cig ligther switch mod http://www.yotatech.com/f2/inconspic...mokers-102415/ Off-roading mods: Andy mod ? http://yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=103814 Grey wire mod - http://www.hboss.net/4runner/locker_safety.htm Rear Differential Breather Extension - http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75747 DIY On-board air with Caddy compressors: http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=75748 E-locker Retrofit (for rigs not equipped with e-locker from the factory): http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/ "Type R" Diff Breather Mod http://4runners.org/writeups/typerdiff/index.html Front sway bar disco’s, build your own as described here: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/larsdennert/4runner/swaybar/ Rear receiver shackle hanger and 2 front tow hooks from here: http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/index.asp Polyurethane Steering Rack Bushing Kit for 96-02 4Runner: 16.95 Wheeler's Off-Road, Inc http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runnerrackbushkit.htm Plus you can add-on the bushing kit for the sway bar too http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/4runswaykit.htm FMU Field Monitor Unit Install in Gen 3 http://www.yotatech.com/f2/fmu-field...en-3-a-120311/ ------------------------------------------------------------- Now some Cheap under $50 mods that don't have write ups yet, if you have a link to any of these mods please post it and i will update as needed. I've been looking for a good HID light install. I've searched and found a couple things but nothing authoritative. Any ideas?

One thing to look out for are the bulbs that say HID but don't have the trasformer box to go with it. They are NOT real HID. Quote:

HID's for $100 bucks. I'll do it if it's that cheap. Has anyone else put these in? I haven't searched yet but I'm assuming there's probably a bunch of different kits out there.

Ebay item I bought Well i didn't think i would need to offer a prize, i figured that being know as the ultimate 3rd gen modder would be enough...Plus this is more for a refernce sheet for other people then anything else. I wish there had been one of these when i was spending weeks looking for all the mods i could do to my new toy! But i bet we can come up with something... Quote:

Oh and BTW you can post ANY mod that has not yet been posted. Be it something that is obvious to regular users. Just INCLUDE A LINK on what it is and how to do it.
