Alarm question

Hi, I'm sorry if this has been discussed but I can't search and troubleshoot myself. I live in China and received this note from my father-in-law about my 4Runner:
what is the alarm sequence on the four runner? I have tried locking the door with the key and unlocking it with the key (we don’t have a push button key), but the alarm won’t disengage. It has the ignition locked out so the car won’t start either. I disengaged the battery and the horn for now. Internet seems to indicate this has been a problem for some others, but I wanted to check on the procedure before taking it to the dealer for repair.

It is a '97. Does anyone have any advice for him? Any help would be great.

Hey man I drive a tow truck and have come across this in other vehicles. Never in a toyota but from my experience once the alarm is engaged and anything is used or disabled e.g. the radio, the battery what have you.....the vehicle's computer will engage as it being stolen. So there isn't anything you can really do unless he has a computer to hook up to the vehicle and fix it himself.

All it is is in the computer. Don't take it to a dealership because they will put a hurting on you. Take it anywhere but a dealership. Call around mechanics and ask them about your situation and get a quote.

All they have to do is hook the computer up to the truck and disengage the alarm....most likely. I've had to tow vehicles because their alarm engaged, they didn't turn it off and tried to start the vehicle or unhook the battery or whatever and the whole car just shuts down with new vehicles. It's all anti-theft stuff and you have to be kind of cautious with the stuff.

Is this a toyota factory installed alarm, toyota dealer installed alarm (RS3200), or an aftermarket alarm?
