I have a 95 4runner without any for of an airbag for safety. I was wondering if there is any place I could get airbags installed? I don't see why not, there is that area about the glove box and a small area in the steering wheel I assume.

Well, I think with enough money you can have anything done to your 4Runner. You could get a rocket launcher put in if you had the money.

So, enough of the smart ass comments ...

I think it's more complex than just shoving some airbags wherever you have some room. You would need the sensors installed - wiring - I'm sure some sort of computer chip, etc. and probably a new dash and steering wheel that will allow the airbag to push through when it its deployed.

So, by the time you spend all the money to have it installed - you could probably sell your 4Runner and buy a newer one with airbags from the factory for the same amount.

Just my guess anyway.

I agree with John. I was going to buy a Celica steering wheel with an airbag, but it required all sorts of additional stuff to make it work - just wasn't worth it. Wear your seatbelt and drive defensively and you'll be fine (or buy a 96+ 4Runner for peace of mind)

The lack of the airbag was one reason that I bought my truck. For one thing, I was planning on getting a custom steering wheel later on, and second, well after getting rear ended by a 68 Chevy full size doing around 50+mph while I sat at a traffic light and walking away unscathed...(My truck had some mad body damage, but I was able to drive home and the Chevy had to get towed away.) in my truck back in 2000, well I really don't think that I need any airbags. I am planning on getting a roll cage and some Corbeau Baja SS seats along with some harnesses as well.
