Question Air Meter (Door Type) Problem?

ToyotaPerformance states "It is foolish to spend a lot of time and money improving engine airflow, then strangling it with a door type meter on the front. Engines fitted with this type of meter will usually gain at least 10% when changed to a large hot wire or speed/density type system." Would it be best to get rid of the stock air meter, and replace it with a hot wire or speed/density system? Could this be done? Has this been done? Thanks.

granted, air flow is important, but i don't think it's as big of a deal as everyone thinks. remember at the end of the day, no matter what kind of improvements you make to your air flow, you're going to strangle it with the throttle. how often are you running at full throttle? any other time, the point of biggest restriction is the throttle plate.

i also read your other post about the addition of the cold air intake. did you check and see if adding the cold air intake really did improve power. you might have added extra restriction by routing the air with the pvc.

the best thing to do would be to dyno your mods, but that's going to be cost prohibitive. the second best thing would be to run a vacuum gauge and see what mods result in the least vacuum, that's when you'll have the best flow.
