Haynes Toyota manual says:
Air injection system supplies are under pressure to the exhaust port to promote combustion of unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide before they are allowed to exit the exhaust system.
Remove it ... nah you wouldn't gain anything.

The only experience I have had in removing air injection system was in the carberator days. Removing an AI on a carb fuel system caused poor idle control.

I guess the main reason I asked the question is that everyone is talking about Cold air Induction systems and from what I understand is that we want to slam cool or even cold air into our EFI systems so why are we putting the hot air from the exhaust system back into the EFI system?

Air is fed from the intake and sent to the exhaust.
The air system is passive and takes no power away from the motor or decreases your mileage.
A qoute from Haynes Emissions Control Manual:
"The air injectin system introduces oxygen (fresh air) into the hot exhaust gases when the engine is running. This promotes further oxidation (burning) of the unburned hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide in the exhaust, which reduces HC and CO emisions, respectively the oxygen in the injected air combines with carbon monoxide to form carbon dioxide, a harmless gass, and it unites with hydrocarbons to produce water, in the form of vapor."
If you remove the air injection system you are just adding more pollutants into the air.
