Exclamation Air Flow Meter HELP!!!!

I know a couple of you have mentioned that you have replaced these on your truck. What were the symptoms of this failing? I recently had a bad head gasket and had to replace a bad O2 sensor, but now my engine is running rough and it gets bad milage. The problem seems to fade in and out, but it is more rough then not. I get a check engine light with the lean message (25).

What more can I go on to figure out this problem?

If it is an AFM where could I get a good cheap one? Would a junk yard safice?

Mass Air Flow

Well on the O2 problems I would recommend taking it to a good shop for diagnosis. As for the MAF I would not get anything like that out of the yard for my truck. Don't know if your truck is 4 or 6 but the price would be the same either way through me, $425.98 to your front door.

The O2 problem is no more and I don't know if I do need to get a new AFM, yet. But that is the best price for a rebuilt/new one that I have seen. I'll let you know.

BTW - I got the brake booster out of a junk yard for $80. Thanks for woking with me on the price of a new one, but I could go through 8 of these before I hit the price of a new one. And since mine lasted 175,000 miles and you never hear of them failing, then I figured I would be safe to give it a shot.

This is a little weird, but after I replaced my O2 sensor, I started getting codes 25 & 26. I replaced the front shocks and the check engine light hasn't come on since. Go figgure.

i've run used MAF's from yards before with no problems.

might be worth it to spend $50 on a used one before spending $500 on a new one.

twas what I was thinking.... Most all 4Runners that are in junkyards were not ran into the ground. They were totalled by drunken teenagers and soccer moms.

Why dont you get a new VFM from Autozone, then return it if that is not the problem?

$425 is the best price I've ever heard on an AFM.

There are electrical tests you can do to determine if the AFM is bad, check chiltons or a FSM. Oh, and I think somebody outlined the procedure here...do a search for that. FWIW, the dealer told me it's very rare for an AFM to go bad so a junkyard one might not be a bad way to go.
