Air Filter options on a 3.0
it seems like I am changing my filter every 6-7 month (6000-9000) miles. I live on dirt roads. I also vacum out the filter once a month. I think the 3.0 filters are outragously priced, $11 for the fiter.
Who has an one of these filters? I am looking at the washable filters that are up on Ebay for under $10.

the ebay ones are junk... the dapter isnt the best and they use not very good quality filters... if going to go that route with an open element, those kits with the adapter will work, however its best to get a real high quality filter element like s&b or k&n or similar... the quailty will be present in those

My personal preference: A drop in K&N and a drilled air box.
The K&N might be expensive but it's the last one you'll have to buy since it's washable. Personally I wouldn't go with the cheap stuff.

K&N
I’ve got the full K&N and love it, I have a pre filter which repels water and can be removed and rinsed out in seconds and put back on with out having to do a total cleaning of the filter element itself. I’m not sure if it was worth the $$$$ but I guess I’ve had it for 7 years now with no problems at all so it has probably paid for itself by now..

If you decide to get the K&N FIPK I have one sitting in storage gathering dust. It's missing some mounting bolts (filter plate to MAF), but otherwise in good condition.

I would be interested - did you really find there was a difference with it installed? I am between doing a serious mod and just drilling some holes (but I don't want to sound like a rice burner)

not really, but I did several changes at the same time....new muffler..bigger tires..etc.
the mod that made the most difference was the changing the gearing. Not sure what rice sound your refering too, but there is a significant 'sucking' sound when the hood is open. With all the other noises my truck makes, I can't here while driving.
Currently, I'm running the Downey version; it's oval shaped instead of cone.

Can you get a side by side picture of the Downey and K&N kit. I haven't seen any pics of the Downey kit.

I got the K&N FIPK at performance products
I was going to give you a link to downey, but it looks like they changed their design to be more like K&N. It looks like they both use the 'cone' filter now.
My biggest complaint with the Downey filter is it's a PITA to take out and clean. I have to unbolt the whole thing to get the filter out. The K&N version you just remove the cone filter. It looks like downeys new filter is the same.
I think the plus side for the downey filter I have is that it has a bigger filter area.

I am using a fliter very simmilar to the one you are looking at that I got on eabay and the performance gains are more noticeable from it than my $280 magnaflow exost job. Really cheep to repalace too.
