air filter/intake
i am looking to buy a air filter or an air intake (i think they are the same) and i had some questions on it. I have a 95 runner and i dont know too much about cars but when someone was doing work on it and i asked them about air intake they said it was going to be difficult because i had to get a converter or something. I was wondering if anybody else had that problem and did it anyway or if anyone knows what im talking about and can help me to how to do this. Thanks

A converter? They probably meant an adapter, which is true to some extent. At the beginning of your intake is something called a VFM (Vane Flow Meter) some people call it a MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) but on the 3.0, it is a VFM. Anyway, if you want to run an open cone filter, you will need an adapter. You can get this adapter on ebay for less than $10. The adapter will bolt in place, allowing you to run a cone filter.
If you off-road, you may want to consider other options. Look up UKMeyers here on yotatech. He has done some mods to his airbox, including the removal of the intake silencers for a custom pipe.
You can also go with a new FIPK made by K&N, but those are spendy.
Poke around the tech section and check out the search feature here. You will find a ton of info.

Well there's cheaper ways to get the same effect as the FIPK kit but I'm thinking that if you dont know whether or not your engine is fuel injected you might just want to leave it alone 
There's write ups in the tech section on a couple different mods you can do to your intake. If you have the money just buy the FIPK kit and bolt it on. Ditch your stock exhaust you'll notice more power that way than through your intake though.
