ahriman's rig w/sliders - [PICS]

just got done w/the new stubbs deluxe sliders! |clicky| man, cannot wait to take on some rocks now, these bad boys are stout. now before you welders start bagging on the boogery welds, know the welds are mine and this is my first welding project -- let the flames commence! gotta tell you, doing a project like this yourself is so satisfying, anyone thinking of sliders, weld 'em yourself; time consuming, but sooooooo worth it. i am pretty proud of this. (if nothing else, you have to check out the last pic ... nobody can say i do not own up to my mistakes, i left it on the truck!)

mtrs ... $240/tire because the $198 internet price means that they wouldn't mount them or balance them or anything for me ... even if i paid.

and the wheels ... i dunno, MT Classic IIs, i think.

how much did those sliders cost?

Great job! I like the gloss paint on them. The welds look good to me. At first I thought they were TIG welded, untill I saw the splatter. Good job, I'm motivated now.

richard did the best he could for me on price given the price of steel (it is going up-n-up), but i think he would rather not i post the price. i will let him tell you if he wants. suffice to say, it was around the price on his site. cannot wait to see your truck shoe-d!

that is my reminder to never, NEVER get in a hurry when welding -- it is just not worth it. it is the swivel off of the c-clamp i was using to hold the scab plate in place. i could have taken it off, but i kinda like it.

the tires are firestone destination mts, if you are intrigued i say buy 'em -- amazing in the mud! great grip in soft dirt.

Those Destination MTs, how do the ride on the road? I have the Goodyear MT/Rs and I absolutely hate them on the road. No matter what I do I can not keep them from shaking the hell out of my truck.

are they balanced correctly? how is your alignment? shaking does not sound right; rough ride or loud yes, but not shaking. the destinations are louder than a normal tire (duh), but they are more tolerable compared to other mts, and decent as a road tire. definitely no shaking...

Yea, I am pretty up to speed on balancing, and position mounting. I have even shaved them so the are more round. They damn things still shake, but are much better then they were.

I can not wait till they wear out. I hate these GOODYEAR TIRES.

i will bet that if you were to sell them now you could get rid of them fairly quickly. a good test to make sure it is the tires would be to go down to your local discount tire (or equivalent) and test fit some tires (hey! why don't you try the destinations...) and take them out on the highway to make sure it is not your truck.
