ahhh! why does it 2nd clank when shifting

i have a 94 ext cab v6 sr5 4x4. And when i shift from 1st to 2nd it clanks into 2nd like metal hitting metal, every time i shift. I dont know whats causeing it. I hope its not an expensive fix. my clutch slips a little to if that has anything to do with it. Any ideas?

thanks, toy94ota

sounds like a universal joint.
it will stop clanking when it snaps off.
lol
seriously you need to take a look.... jack up the back wheels and leave the truck in 1st gear. grab the tire and turn it back and forth, this will make the rearend turn the driveshaft back and forth... if you hear a clank you found it.

I just had to change that on mine... well I tried to but I threw some money at the kid next door and he finished the job.
lol

That's cheating, Allyia
By the way, since they've not specified whether or not the "clank" is coming from inside or outside of the truck, front or back, it could be the "synchronizers" that are messed up in the gearshift and need to be replaced.

Ain't no synchronizers in the "gear shift" - they are on the gear shafts next to the gears deep inside the mysterious bowels of the trans.

But I had another take - do you have a body lift? If so - could the lever be hitting the hole in the floor?

Or - the proper order is 'clutch in, move lever, clutch out.' Any other order may produce alternative results including wierd noises... kiddin ya.

Try replacing your shifter seat bushing.
