Aftermath of TB cleaning

Actually planned to take apart the valve cover and see how much sludge I had, I somehow ended up taking apart the TB and cleaned that instead..(never even touched the valve cover) after I put it back together I started the car and it revved up to 5000+ rpms and stayed there.. I panicked and turned the engine off. Went back online to read this and other 4runner forums for solutions.

Mostly saw people saying check vacuum lines and this and that or bad sensors or something sticking, keeping the IAC open and such. I went back to my car and checked this all, found no problems.

Last resort, I looked at the throttle cables and I had noticed one cable seemed to look like it wasn't right... further inspection I found that one cable was not aligned with the metal contraption that held it, causing the throttle to be pulled even tighter during start up. I simply moved the cable back into its correct spot and this fixed the 5000+rpm problem. This problem happened because I and others will move the IACV to clean out the build-up and during this process, our hands may accidentally push the cable off its metal groove.

I am posting this because I believe others have had this problem to a smaller degree, causing incorrect rpms after cleaning their TB. Just a tip. I'll post pics asap.

I just disconnected my cable so I could pull the tb off the truck entirely. Easy to do, easier to work on.

See what would happen is that I would pull that back to open the plate to clean, my hand/fingers must have dislodged the cable off that metal bracket.

Here is a side shot, its on the far right. you can actually see the cable in there, its lighter grey. it was not in there and to the left when I was having the issue

Update, the car runs incredibly smoother now. I don't have imaginary hp and torque to say I gained but there is a far smoother shift and the car just feels better during light and heavy acceleration. I am going to finish cleaning it today and also I discovered small gunk/sludge in my air intake tube just near the throttle body but nothing near the maf sensor. I will update with more pics.

Also if anyone can answer this before I put up a pic, just under the air intake is the 3 coil packs for the spark plugs, the closest one to the front of the car had a purple and white wire tapped into it and I traced this purple wire..leads to the driver side firewall and into the car. Any idea what this is? I don't see it on other 1998 4runners when guys post their pics of the coil packs
