Guys, have a 97 Tacoma 2WD with stock shocks after 100k miles and was wanting to see if getting different shocks would give a little softer/smoother ride. Don't get me wrong though, the ride as it is, is not that rough. I have heard good info about the Bilstien's for the TRD's and 4x4's but what about for the 2wd'ers. Would that make it rougher? Or are new stock ones the way to go?

if youre looking for smooth, bilsteins probably shouldnt be on your list

If you want soft and cheap, OEM is probably the way to go.

Ok, sounds like OEM is for me. Next question, where can I get the OEM's at a good price online and what brand/model does Toyota use for the OEM's?

As far as OEM, you can go to any of the dealerships that support this board. I personally go to 1sttoyotaparts.com but Strap 22 works at a dealership and so does Evan from Northridge Toyota. Evan actually gives 25% off list plus free shipping so this is hard to beat.

I would question OEM and say the Trekmasters seem to be very popular for the runners. They are not as stiff as Bils but provide better handling than stock. They're also pretty affordable as others have said that they've gotten Trekmasters shipped for $200 from Ebay. Just a thought...

The OEM shocks are by far the cheapest. If you are willing to pay up a bit more you could go for the Trekmasters (good combo of on/off road capabilities) or OME shocks which can be relatively soft but even more expensive.

I would consider the Monroe SensaTracs. Reasonably priced, lifetime warranty, and will probably give you the type of ride you are looking for...

i have a 96 runner and i put pro comp es 3000's on it i rides like a dream and they have a lifetime warrenty and only cost me 180 for front struts and back shocks i put the shocks on myself and had a mechanic put the struts on for 80 bucks i got them from 4wheelparts.com
