advice on 4runner audio

Hi, been looking around and saw how helpful everyone is. Hopefull someone can help me out.
bought a 4runner couple of months ago and decided that i need to upgrade the factory system. to keep the costs down i plan to install myself; planning on getting a 12"sub + amp + head unit for now and replace the factory speakers later on. I have my wallet ready for these:

sub: Pioneer TS-W3041C

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-DbuU5ue...130TSW3041&s=0

amp: Pioneer GM-X962

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-DbuU5ue...sp?i=130GMX962

head unit: alpine 7894 (to power fact. speakers)

http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...DA7894&o=m&a=1

will all this be compatible with each other? i think i need a to run a 10guage cable from the battery to headunit, 4guage from battery to amp, rca cable from amp to the sub. is this correct? i have never installed before so please forgive my stupid q's.

Hey neutronsr5,

Welcome to the board, you have found the best dang toyota forum out there, GOOD CHOICE. . I hope weall help and you enjoy the forum.

As for the audio choices, I say go with the Pioneer set up youhave planned out, that is what I am planningon doing here right after Christmas, is update my system to all Pioneer.

Have you shopped around and found that crutchfeild has the best prices, becauseI havent done much shopping around yet, and was just wondering if you have and locked yourself into crutchfeild?

ood luck, keep us all updated and ENJOY.

Hey, nice choice on the headunit. It will sound Great! Thats what i upgraded to and i think the sound quality beats most others. The only thing I dislike about it is the mechanical stuff, like how the CD loads. I found that my old Pioneer was much better at that. As for where to buy, E-bay is the best for deals. Don't shop at Mobile 1 what ever you do. If you need any help with installation, just let me know. Its not too hard. Oh, the RCAs go from the headunit to the amp. You use regular speaker wire to go from the amp to the sub...just to clear that up for ya. You can get the speaker wire at Radio shack or something. Make sure you get like 12 guage. A lot of the wire at radio shack is smaller. Good luck.

You guys should try this. I've found some pretty damn good deals from that site. Pretty dependable for everything I've done with it.

I agree that crutchfield is WAY over priced. Check out sounddomain.com. They will price match any site! and they are highly reguarded at rec.audio.car. The Pioneer TS-W3041C is only $119 there.
Ebay is great place as well. The Alpine HU is $280-300 on ebay and that amp is ~$110

I think Alpine is the way to go for mp3 head units.

Take a look at the thread below for some other sub choices. IMHO you could do better than the pioneer for $199.

If you aviod crutchfield you might have enough in you budget to get a $200 component set for the front! (MB Quarts, A/D/S, DEI etc, etc)

Have fun doing your own install, it can be very rewarding....

My only complaints to Toyota.... I wish the speaker grilles on the tweeter sail panel and the door panel were not 1 piece and plastic.

I had to Dremel out the sail panel grille to put the new tweeter in there ( which came with its own metal grille).

That wasn't too bad... but I really wanted to replace the plastic grille in the door panel with a fine metal one supplied with the aftermarket speakers...

I was kinda irritated when I found it was integrated into the door panel and not removable--I don't think I'll cut that grille out... Though, I'm sure those plastic grilles don't help the sound any....

Just a friendly consumer report here:

SoundDomain.com was out of stock for the MP3 unit I wanted (JVC KD-SX980), so I purchased it from http://www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com and got a great price ($165 + $12 S&H). They shipped promptly and provided a tracking number.

Also - a good site to check out MP3 players with a message forum is www.highwaymp3.com
