add on gauge questions

I am looking at buying some more guages for my truck. 93 P/U 3.0 manual tranny, 4wd. Do any of you know for the guages listed below do I need mechanical gauges or electrical guages

water temp - for radiator
oil temp
oil pressure

You can use either type for the pressure ones. W/ electric gauges, you install senders and run wires back for the gauges. W/ mechanical, you run tubing back. I like electical gauges since you don't have tubes with oil under pressure in the cab. See http://www.egauges.com/ for some info.

great site you sent me to 4crawler. The site answered all my questions that I had and the ones I didn't even know I had yet. Am I correct in assuming that for the pressure and temp gauges, electrical ones that is, that you splice in a T with the correct NPT threads to install the sending unit? Where would be a good place to install these sending units for
water temp
oil pressure
oil temp

I am also assuming that it would be a good idea to fuse the 12V power to the gauge? Would and inline bus fuse be appropriate. I can't see the gauge needing anything more than a 10 amp fuse since the wires are only 18 gauge.

good write up bob, if I have a port like that I can install the temp and pressure sending unit there with the use of a T fitting. So that solves those two. The one I am curious about those is the water temp for the radiator. Any ideas?

Dig around on your engine looking for locations. Not familiar with the V6, but on the 22RE there are lots of options. One thing I did on my VW is to use the dual output VDO senders for my add-on gauges. Then I removed the idiot light sender for say the oil pressure and screwed in a dual output sender with a contact for the idiot light and an analog output for the new gauge. Or find the stock temp sender and remove it, insert a tee fitting and screw in the old and new sender. On my '85, I added a fuel pressure guage by drilling and tapping the end of the fuel injector rail. Then I soldered in a brass pipe fitting (to make sure it was secure and totally sealed) then screwed the pressure sender into it. On an old vehicle I had, I also drilled and tapped one of the water hose fittings for a temp sender. It was screwed in and then sealed up with some epoxy. Just need to get creative with the sender locations.
