add dome lights in headliner

Ok, well I was with my parents in their honda oddessy. I noticed in the back seats they have dome lights/vents in the headliner. To turn the lights on, you just press on the light. I want to add this to my 2000 4runner, just as a cool addon. I dont want the vents on the same console as the honda does. My interior is grey. Anyone know where I could find something like this, I want them to be good quality, I was thinking of getting them from my old dodge, but its just not the same quality. I know how to wire it all up, as there is the center dome light that has full time power, and power from the doors. I just need two of them. HMMM, i just thought of tthis last minute, would the sun roof get in the way, ill look at the headliner tomorrow, I would think there would be enough room between the headliner and the sunroof to have a light, but Ill check. Thanks in advance

I need to add this, is there any way to make the original buzzer in the car go off when one of these is switched on (not cause the door is open, but actually switched on) when i turn the car off/open the door with the car off. i know my parents van batt died cause they left the click lights on

too big, hahaha
i forget what other car i was in, but those domes were thin and long, would fit perfectly between the sunroof and the side of the car, they had little black switches on them, just like the domes up front, if anyone has these in their car, tell me, so I can just search for replacement domes for that kind of car

why not get the lights from honda? you already know they are in your parents van. then you can simply remove the headliner, install the lights, replace the headliner and youre done!

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has these for the rear seat passengers. I'll post a pic later today.

I would do that, the only problem is that they have the vents built in, I dont need vents, and the whole module is waayyy too big for my headliner.

Thanks, try to get them tonight. I just tried the maplight mod where they come on when the doors open, unsuccessful. Blew fuse, hopefully I will find a way to hook these up too. I cant believe toyota made the maplights only on switches, its soo dark at night in the 4runner. i would only need two of these handles, so if you know where i could get them, that would be great

Pic up a copy of Street Rodder magazine. (The kind with rods like 32 Fords and the like, not ricer or muscle car stuff) They are chock full of ads for really cool stuff you might use for customizing. That's where I got the idea for these way cool window cranks:

The dome lights in newer VWs will work. The lights themselves are a large toggle switch, they have a bracket that mounts to the headliner board itself, all you do is cut out like a 1" by 2" hole fish your wire through the headliner place the bracket in the hole and bend the tabs behind the head liner then plug the light in and snap it in place. A friend of mine just installed a set of these as rear door dome lights on each side of a 1986 Saab 900T 4 door, they have a light gray trim ring and the lights them are clear. Worth looking into if you have a local import bone yard, just make sure you cut the wire out of the VW so you can splice it in and have the connector. I think they may be made by Hella also!

Ill look for the vw ones. I think this kind of light is in the corrolla or camry too, except it has the black little switch like on the maplights up front. Any part numbers for a light like this from toyota?? Thanks
