acceleration problem?

2002 TOYOTA 4Runner V6

PROBLEM: Intermittent problem with acceleration? Only happens when sitting at a light or ideling for a couple of seconds. Then when I go to hit the gas, there is a hesitation before it accelerated (advances slowly then all of a sudden it seems like it gets gas and accelerates?)

Fuel pump problem?...throttle body sticking...gas pedal? It seems like it is a gas related issue...seems like it doesn't get gas for a second or 2 and then it kicks in??

Any ideas or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

ill put money on it, you have a vacuum leak, check your hose for youre intake that leads into the throttle body, happened to me. would sometimes die unless i give it gas when not moving, after i fixed it it drove fine, regained all my power. if not then dunno sorry

its not stalling...idles perfect....but then when i step on the gas to go...it creeps as if its not getting enough fuel for a couple of seconds then i step on the gas pedal a bit more and it kicks in and then runs great.

It only happens when i come to a full stop for a while (Like having to wait to merge or at a red light)?

Hi Badlnds,
Any update on this? I'm having the exact same issue on my supercharged '97 runner. Just changed the plugs and cleaned the TB and it didn't fix the problem. Considering replacing the fuel filter next.

I have a problem kinda like this, though not the same.

Everyone knows that trucks will feel peppier on some days (usualy when it is cooler). Well my truck will feel peppier at this light, and not at the next, peppier at the next and so forth.

I step on it and the RPM's go up the same each time and it sounds the same, but 1 time it will move fine and the next it won't. Usually after it is hot it moves slower, but not always.

It seems like the tranny almost, like it is not putting power tp the wheels like it should but it is not slipping.

Only other thing i have come up with is the Fan/AC compressure. It might be when those are on that is is slower,b ut should those have such and impact on power?

(my money is in this)

if you haven' t already…

---------------------
a new time,

the feared soil of the MAF sensor is a ready guilty.

it cleans up with the poison of the CRC cleaner of MAF
or an equivalent potion of characteristic 'zero of the residue'

and then...re-establish ECU program in the 'long term of the fuel trim disposition…'
uncoupling the battery and count for the minute only to 10

*only if not there is mil - and no ' 'pending' codes. *see if there are those first.

if the problem goes absent, complete I/M after 2 tanks of gas and you makes all your normal habits of drive.

if the problem has gone and if complete I/M, dirty MAF were the answer.

Problem with acclerating...... After i drive my runner around for maybe 5min and let it warm up i have problems accelerating from a dead stop, 1st it studers some, then i'll punch on the gas a few times and it acts like there was nothing wrong until i stop again. it has this problem all the time. It's my first toyota. Any guesses on what the problem could be?

I usally drive a 72 4x4 f-100 that me and my dad made a custom lift for. Rides on 36's and has a 390 that im about to switch out for a 460. =]

I would suggest changing your fuel filter, cleaning your throttle body and MAF.
Then disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes and see how it runs. I recently did this and my 4runner runs like it is brand new.
