About the Detroit Locker

Today while we were doing the Evans Creek run I was talking to a couple of you guys about my Detroit Locker. I just want to reemphasize to you guys that I have no regrets whatsoever about going with my Detroit instead of an ARB. I don't know what the old Detroits were like, but the new Softlocker technology must be pretty good, because I don't find its handling too objectionable at all. At low speeds when turning sharply on a smooth surface, you will here and feel it a little. I hear this smooths out after a couple hundred miles, but at any rate, the offroad advantages far outweigh the occasional noise you hear on the street. I don't think the price difference for the ARB is worth it.

I am also running a Tutrac up front. I am also really happy with it, but it has only seen use off road, so I don't know what one in the rear would be like when it is always active, but (you are going to have to forgive me because I am terrible with names) for the lady that was running the stock, black Taco today, the Trutrac might be a really good option too.

Just my thoughts, but there is really no way to tell you what an incredible difference a locker or Trutrac makes. You have all seen them in action. I enjoy wheelin' with all of you guys and we don't want to scare anybody off the trails (my wife is a nervous wreck each time we go), so this should be a high priority mod for all you guys. Even when I was running the Pirelli A/T tires, my trail performance was pretty awesome and CONTROLLED.

A Detroit definitely kicks butt off road. However, I don't like how it behaves on icy roads which is I why I'm replacing mine w/ an ARB.

I should have added that they get a little squirrely going over washboards at high speed too. You get more icy conditions in Stanwood than I do down in Puyallup so that has not been a problem for me. They also introduced a new E-locker this year. I don't know what apps, but when it is 'off' it acts as a limited slip, 'on' turns it into a locker.
