a340e torque converter install.

a340e torque converter install.
I am swapping the tranny in my 2000 4runner 2.7L 4x2 auto. I have the old one out and I am getting ready to install the good one.
Question about the torque converter. How do I know that the TC is locked in all the splines that it need to work properly? I've measured the clearance from the old one that was not disturbed during removal. When I compare it to the new one most of the time the clearance is usually not as deep but occasionally I can get it a lot deeper (like almost to the bell housing deep).
Should I go with the deeper clearance and just pull it towards the flywheel when bolting it on? Will that keep everything engaged?
Thanks again,
Ced
