99 Tacoma Ride Height Adjustment

Hey all,
I'd like your suggestions on how I might go about doing a ride height adjustment on my 99 Tacoma. The previous owner had some extra leafs added in the back but the front still sits at the factory height. So, unless I'm heavily loaded and have a trailer in tow, my taco sits with the back end a few inches higher than the front. I'm not a suspension guru by any means so I'd like to hear some suggestions. Would it be as simple as throwing some longer coil springs in the front (perhaps from a runner)?

IIRC, 99 4Runner V6 4x4 coils *might* lift the taco. Otherwise, you have quite a few options.

With all of those, you'd need a Differential Drop to help keep your CV axles at a slightly better angle. Cheap insurance.

With the Old Man Emu coils, I'd personally pick up some Old Man Emu N91S Struts to match. With the Tundra coils, I'd say get the Bilstiens.

Thanks Gapguy. Is there anything significantly different between installing new coils vs suspension spacers that I should be aware of?

There's a local shop that sells OME stuff so I'll check them out. As for the Tundra coils, that never would have come to mind. Did you buy your Tundra coils new from the dealer?

Thanks for the info. I'll start exploring those options.

No problem. Personally, I prefer a coil replacement lift. When you start putting spacers inside the strut assembly, things begin to get stiff and the ride changes, as does flex/droop.

I had the OME (882, taller than 881..about 2.5" lift) coils first, they're very stiff. Next, I had the Sway-A-Way Racerunner coilovers..they were fantastic for high speed desert racing, thats it. Now I have the Tundra coils with two 3/8" spacers OUTSIDE of the assembly. Check that thread I pointed you to. Bamchem is distributing the top plate spacers and studs, and I highly recommend him; plus his prices are VERY competitive.

I got my coils directly from a dealer...but you can get them cheaper online from http://1sttoyotaparts.com

Revtek also sells a front lift spacer, IF you want to go that way.

And of course, they're the many, many fancy coilovers available. If you want a soft ride don't get the Sway-A-Ways. A lot of people are happy with their Donahoe Racing Coilovers ($900+)
