99 Tacoma no start after deck plate + throttle clean

Hey Guys,

Been a long time reader and just finally registered. I have a question regarding my 1999 Tacoma 3.4 V6. I did the deck plate mod and in the interim also went and cleaned the throttle body. After which the truck would not start. Code P1300 came up so I replaced the MAF. Now no codes show up but it almost starts, then dies right when you think it would start.

I pulled the 15A EFI fuse, disconnected the battery terminal over night and still nothing.

Here's a sound clip: http://bit.ly/pk5lED

I phoned the dealer and he listened to the engine and he said there may be a hole in my air intake somewhere. Obviously if I just did a deck plate mod, so I covered it up to see if it would work, reset the EFI but still nothing.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Check to make sure that your intake tube and hoses are connected correctly. I suggest this because I had an incident many years ago where my truck (98 taco) made that same symptom. What it was, I was trying to fog seafoam through the TB and I had removed the intake tube without unplugging the MAF. I unplugged the MAF and the truck fired right up. What I getting at is check for possible airleaks AFTER the MAF. It sounds like you are getting air entering the engine that the computer isn't reading so it's killing the engine to protect itself. Hope it helps!

sleeper2002: after reading your post I thought, well, it wouldn't hurt to go over everything again. So there you have it after tightening it all up and making sure its connected properly, it fired up. Even with the old MAF, which is strange since it was spitting out error code P1300.

I take it that a P1300 is a MAF failure? If so, try cleaning the MAF really really well (and as directed), re-setting the computer by either pulling the neg terminal on the battery or unplugging the EFI fuse and hive it a shot

You probably didn't have the MAF electrical plug in all the way. They can click in without being fully connected, I had the same thing happen to me

Did you unplug anything in the ignition system?
