99' 4Runner V6 long cranks when engine is warm
So I've been battling this starting issue in one form or another since I bought my Runner back in March. Initially it seemed that after I shut the engine off for a brief time (~5 min) and tried to restart it would start and stall a few times and when it did finally start it would stuble to life and smoke a little, like it was getting too much fuel dumped.
I took it back to the dealer and they couldnt find any codes and cleaned the MAF. And of course, they couldnt duplicate the problem.
I got it home and did the following:
Changed plugs and wires
Changed fuel filter
Removed and cleaned T-body, dissassembled ICV and cleaned it out
Ran Toyota fuel injector through the tank
All this seemed to help until I was driving around yesterday. It would sit for about 45 min and when trying to restart I would get really long cranks before it would fire. Didnt hesitate or stumble, just took longer than it should to turn over. Again, when its cold it start up fine. Only seems to be a warm start issue.
It has 166k on it, and has had a recent starter and battery. Any ideas?

I actually have 161k on my 99 4runner and I;m experiencing the same thing except sometimes it wont start.
I dont think its the starter because its not "clicking" and ive rebuilt it not too long ago...
I was going to swap plugs and wires but i did those not too long ago, and also clean the ICV... but that what you did.
I have a new Optima battery, good on maintenace....
anyone have any clues?

Check the temperature sensor for the ECU. If it is stuck and thinks the engine is cold, it might be making the mixture too rich. This would probably create a fast idle, but it is worth testing. Check the fuel system with a fuel pressure tester. If it does not hold pressure with the engine off, then a fuel injector could be leaking fuel into the intake. When was the last time the spark plugs were changed?
