'99 4runner stock front coils
Hi,
I just installed downey 2" lift rear coils and front and rear bilsteins on my '98 2wd v6 limited. I want to install toyota stock '99 4wd front coils. Can someone please advise why they have different part #'s and what the difference is from right coil (part #4813135400) to left coil (part #4813135350). Thanks.

Jan,
Since the gas tank is on the left side, the left side coils are longer to handle the additional weight.
edit: its the rear left sides that are longer. the front ones are the same. sorry about that.

Hey Bob,
I'm pretty sure that 2wd coils are shorter than 4wd coils, so he's ordering the 4wd coils for a little lift.
Jan, correct me if I'm wrong!
And btw, welcome to the forums.

Hey Bob and Tom,
I am looking for a little lift to offset the rear lift I got from the Downeys. I have an automatic and I'm not much of an off road guy. I'm not really trying to set my rig up for anything more than a heavy duty stock suspension for carrying about 400-500 extra lbs of samples that I haul regularly on road trips for business. I just bought my 4Runner after owning an Explorer for many years - what a difference!!!!!Thanks for the warm welcome.

Congrats on the upgrade from the Explorer!
The 4wd coils should definitely do the trick for you up front. I think someone else on the forums here did the same thing, but I don't remember who. If you're interested, try doing a search for it - I'm sure they had pics of the results too.

Want these?
Also congrats on the upgrade from the Ford Exploder, er... Explorer. Well, I did a full OME lift on my 2001 SR5 4WD and have the front (and rear) coils (and shocks) left over with almost all the mounting hardware. They're in the "for sale" division of the personal classifieds section on this forum, or just CLICK HERE. Mine are used of course, from a 2001 4WD, but I'd save you some money if they have some application to your 4Runner. What's Toyota asking for two of them? I'll cut it in half, at least. I still have the box that the OME's came in so I could pack them up and ship them out really easily. Shoot me a PM or e-mail if you're interested or want more information. They're just sitting in my garage closet.

greetings,
I just installed rear downey 2" lift coils and bilstein shocks front and rear on my 98 2wd. I want to install stock front 99 4wd coils as you recommended, but I am questioning the different part #'s for right (4813135400) and left (4813135350) for my application, referring possibly to a difference in the spring tension to compensate for the extra weight on one side for the 4wd parts that my 2w doesn't have. Please advise. Thank you for the help.
regards,
Jan
The difference as far as I can understand is for the battery and the gas
tank as well as the drives weight. All of the 4WD only parts are more or
less even sided. They run down the middle, the only exception would be the
front drive shaft which is extremely close to the middle.
Use the 4WD parts and you will be fine, a guy in San Diego did and it worked
out great.

Hey Steve,
That makes a lot of sense. I understand the 4WD parts weigh quite a bit up front, so therefore by installing the 4WD springs on a 2WD without the extra weight, will give me the extra lift I need. What I find funny is that none of the guys who sell these parts, Toyota dealers included, are knowledgable about these applications. Thanks again.
