My girlfriends 4 runner has automatic hubs and i've never worked on a 4wd 4runner with automatic hubs is there any speciall tool i will need like a 54mm socket. Is it as straight forward as doing the wheel bearings on a straight axle with hubs. Are the bearings just sittin in the rotor like straight axle trucks with hubs? Just need an idea of whats in there before i go at it.

Both front wheels are making clickin sounds while driving down the road. the sound does not go away ever and the runner has about 110,000 miles on it and i dont think the bearings have ever been done.
Please a little advice goes a long way. Thanks.

Its not even close to the old style bearings. 54mm socket won't do anything. You will, however, need a 34mm socket to loosed the nut holding the axle in place.

The Tacomas and 3rd gen 4Runners with ADD (its not called auto hubs) used a sealed unit hub bearing. This needs to be pressed in and out.

Btw, i would also be looking at the CV's as the cause of the clicking.

Yes, you do indeed have to have a press. Be thankful you don't have to replace unit bearings on a dodge Those are $400 EACH.
