99 4runner clock doesn't work.

Ok. So when I bought my 99 4runner SR5, one very saddening thing was discovered. My clock didn't work. I opened the whole center console and got to it. I cleaned the connectors and did all that and it still will not work.

So my question. What are my options? can I buy a new one. Or someone fix this one?

Any input would be amazing

Thanks
-Mark

seeing that you have an aftermarket radio in your sig it's possible that it wasnt plugged in right. Has it worked before or did it never work? Here's a post that might help you out.

Well. I have had it apart many times and every time plugged it into the correct port. When I bought it nothing was messed with at all. The truck was 100% stock when I bought.

So I know for sure the clock doesn't work and it wasn't just a human error. So what are my options now?

If you find a cheap solution, let me know. This is a very common problem on 3rd gen. The clock is actually working (usually), but it does not light up. I have not read a report of a successful fix, not counting those that plugged the clock connector into the dummy hole. Dealer replacement is over $300. E-Bay will run you $50-75, but you don't know how long it will last, as there is a definite design flaw with these clocks. Mine died about six years ago--I just use the clock on my Alpine HU. I mounted a cell phone holder right in front of the dead clock and I am very happy with the set-up. I would enjoy the rest of your 4Runner, and just forget the stinkin' clock.

Somebody found this guy, who claims to refurbish them for $40, but I have no idea as to whether it is a good solution:

Clock fixer guy

Lol. I hear you. I use my HU clock too or my cell. I was just thinking if It was cheap to fix Then I would just go ahead and fix it. Plus it would be easier for passengers to know the time also.

Lol Idk small details appease me

I went through eBay and had a guy rebuild it. The cold solder in them usually fails. I think it paid about $18 or so.

Mine on my 97 works when it feels like I really need to know what time it is...the rest of the time its off. Pretty weird but definately not worth what they want for a new one. If mine ever quits completely I'll go to wally world and buy one of those stick on clocks for $7.00 and call it good.

just pick one up from a junkyard....troll craigslist for part outs and the like. I believe there is some variation in the design over the years-and the connections may be slightly different as well.

I will keep an eye out next time I am over at Jim's Yota Yard here in the big city. Even then it will cost more than it should....

Seller name is atjoefan

I have Maxima that is doing the same thing and I am going to send him that one as well.

thanks 98runner210, found him on ebay. looks like his prices have gone up, but still only $23.99 + S/H. Says he's located in Elkridge, Maryland for anyone interested. has 100% positive feedback from 614 people, his feedback from '96-'02 4runner owners is great, i guess i'll have to give it a try.

My clock was broken too. I took it out and squeezing it a certain way made it work, but eventually it broke altogether.

I put a Corolla clock in from my buddy's totaled car... doesnt fit the hole and you couldnt change the time without removing the dash.

That got really old, so I yanked one from a 97 that got traded in at my dealership. Surprising this one works, considering its older than my 4Runner and my original went out.

LOL! Mine hasn't worked for years, but on the coldest days of the year it will show up and say Hi! I had not made the connection until I saw your post. It probably tightens up some internal connection. [OT--I was on an assignment in the Amazon once, and my HP calculator would only work if I gave it regular refrigerator breaks.]
