99-04 maf sensor
hi, i was looking at my MAF sensor on my truck which is off of a 1996 toyota 4runner and noticed that the sensor looks incredibly restrictive! im supercharger, 2.1" pulley, deck plate, methanol injection and am starting to look at all of the small things. my buddy's 99 4runner has a bigger mass air flow sensor and i am wondering if that kind of thing would just plug and play?
i have also searched google for the sensor and see that it seems to be a drop in sensor, kind of like you could put the sensor in any size pipe you could ever want, is this true?

I have also debated this upgrade. You would need the intake tube and maf sensor and you would need to re-pin the connector. They are not the same layout. I have not yet tried this and dont know if it works. The different year ecus may have different interpretations of the MAF sensor mapping. I know for a fact you would have to re-pin it though because I'm using a 2001 engine harness on a 98 engine. 98 was old MAF and 01 being the newer style. Pretty easy- only a couple wires need to be changed. Try it and let us know what happens!

just borrow your buddys intake and maf and re-pin your connector to see if it works. If you dont have the EWDs pm me and i can tell you which wires go where. I dont have a friend with a newer truck to borrow parts from.

i swapped a 2000 4runner engine, harness, ecu and it has the newer style maf.
it's my understanding that the newer maf is more sc friendly, but my question would be if the maf upgrade would be a stand alone mod or would you need the newer ecu also?
in other words would you have to go with a new style maf, harness and ecu?
