98 V6 Tacoma Head gasket issues
There is a pretty good chance that I am posting this in the wrong spot/category,
sorry in advance.
I am looking to test drive/purchase a 1998 tacoma v6 trd tacoma tomorrow and I have heard some rumors that they tend to experience some head gasket trouble/failure in and around 300,000 kilometers. (186,000 miles) This thing is sitting at 250,000 kilometers as it is. Is this something to take into consideration? is this a common problem?
Thanks for the help.
Newb Jordan.

Yes, it is a fairly common problem. The earlier years were prone to an external leak (can't remember if the 98 was included, but think it was through early '97) and had a recall to place the HG with an updated design. I got about 170,000 miles out of my updated HG before it failed with another external leak.
If they are overheated, they have a reasonable chance of blowing too.
Anyhow, there are number of threads around here on the topic.
