98 tacoma died while on highway

Hi All
I have a 1998 Tacoma manual trans with 2.7 4cylinder, yesterday driving home going about 70 the motor just stopped running like a switch had turned off, tries to start but as soon as you give it any throttle it dies or after cranking a few seconds it dies, so I thought ok fuel pump no problem just replace it, I had truck towed home and started working on it to day, I have fuel flow out of the pressuer regulator to the return, so I am thinking it is not fuel pump I disconnected fuel line at tank and getting plenty of flow into a bucket, I swaped a throttle postion sensor off of a spare motor and that is not the problem, what other things should I check, any help is greatly appreciated, I need to get this fixed asap, I need truck to go to work on Thursday

^X2. I don't know about the 3RZ, but the 22re won't run with the AFM unplugged.

Checked MAF according to FSM, resitance looks good and there is a couple of tenth of a volt fluctuation when air is blown through MAF, the fsm does not say how much fluctuation there should be

Did you verify all relays and grounds and fuses are good? EFI relay in fuse panel, COR, EFI fuse. There are a few things that can cause this. I installed a relay when I did my swap, since my ignition switch can't handle a lot of current like the Taco ign switch can. I used the relay to supply the coils and such in the engine compartment. Well, my 1st relay was apparently cheap, because the truck would just die at any situation. Idling or driving down the highway. Like someone flipped a switch. I finally remembered the relay I added, tapped on it, and the truck started right up. And it had thrown a couple igniter codes. I replaced the relay and haven't had a problem since.

So do some testing on ignition switch circuits as well. Maybe something simple, maybe something deeper. Only thorough testing will find out...
