98 4Runner - What Mods?

Hi All. New to the board here and looking for some advice.

I've got a 98 with 148,000 miles. 5 spd. elocker. V6. All stock...no mods. Bought it 4 year ago with 104K miles and it has been absolutely bulletproof. Only put in new timing belt and water pump at 120K miles, and put on some new Bridgestone Revos. No rust or body damage.

However, I now have a Subaru Outback and a Dodge Ram Cummins 4x4. So, I thought about selling off the 'Runner.

However, it looks like I could only expect to get maybe $8K or $9K for it, so I'm now thinking of keeping it and adding a few mods to improve it as an off-road play toy without compromising its over-the-road comfort. For example, I might just drive the thing from Colorado to Alaska this Summer. It just won't be a daily driver any more.

Soooo...based on your experience and expertise, what mods would you guys/gals suggest and in what order of priority? What would be the most bang for the buck in terms of off-road capability and convenience?

Thanks for the help!!

For an expedition type rig, I would start with some nice cargo boxes in the back, a small lft such as thbe Tundra/OME lift, and some nice tires. If you need the storage up top get a nice roof basket or platform. Then a front locker and body protection is always good. This is what I would personally do, and what you need/want will obviously be different.

For your drive to Alaska, will you be wheeling along the way and in AK? Or is it just a drive? Just build your vehicle to suit your needs, not what everyone tells you to put on it.
