98 4runner engine surges

Greetings to all, I have the 3.4 and need to know where to start to chase an engine surge. The engine seems to surge at half throttle and is worse when the a/c is on. An increase and decrease in power seems to cycle and the tach does not reflect this. Replaced plugs, air filter, fuel filter and ran injector cleaner thru.Clutch is strong and is not slipping. I am going to clean the MAF and thottle body this weekend. Thanks Ahead for any tips and tricks. Thanks to Yoda Tech and forum visitors for sharing all your knowledge.

How many miles on it and do you have the factory service manual? It sounds like you've covered most of the basics. I take it you do not have an SC? When you say part throttle do you mean cruising and not accelerating?

Surge

Hey, sorry so vague. No SC and surge is during acceleration. It appears to happen at half throttle on acceleration. Part throttle and wide open throttle the surge goes away. The engine does not surge at cruise or idle. 117 k miles. I have the Haynes manual. Any help would help. Thanks

In your Haynes manual is there a section for testing the throttle position sensor? I've read of the engine acting funny if there's a bad spot in it. If you figure it out please post back. You could also try PMing Jay he's a tech on here, but seems to have been busy lately as he hasn't been posting much.
