'98 4Runner - All Headlights Stopped Working
I'm unsure when all my headlights stopped working but I noticed last week when I tried to drive after dark. I checked the two fuses in the dash and replaced the relay, but they still do not work.
- The car buzzes as if the lights are on, the dash lights come on. So, I assume that means the switch on the steering wheel is fine?
- Neither the high or low beams work
- Maybe completely unrelated but I had to replace the battery a few ago. (Wife left overhead light on, the batter was old so replaced it.)
- 231,000 miles, SR5
I searched old threads and saw similar problems but no one who posted how they actually resolved the problem? Any ideas?

DRL's would use the low beam filament, try unplugging the DRL relay under the hood near the battery, do you have tail lights and marker lights since you have interior lights?. Is it a Limited or an SR5, do you have fog lights.

SR5.
Taillights work as do reverse, interior and dash.

Undue this plug to disable DRL's, this should rule out the DRL dimmer under the dash aswell,.. but I'm wondering if there isn't a problem in the fuse box under the hood or battery connections, maybe do a clean up and check for corrosion in the fuse panel, do you live in the rust belt. I hope you changed the bulbs well you where in there sometimes its hard to tell they are blown.

I'll unplug and see what happens.
I live in Tidewater, Virginia so corrosion is a bit greater than other parts of the world due to the humidity. However, I didn't see any evidence of corrosion.
How are the headlights grounded?

Uhh, this is really wasting time. Get yourself a 12-volt test light and start tracing the circuit. If you need help doing that, post back when you have the light and I'll help you. Don't guess, troubleshoot!
Start by checking for 12V+ at BOTH ends of BOTH headlight fuses with ignition on and lights on HIGH. Clip on battery negative and use your probe in the little holes in the fuse. Tell me what happens and we'll go from there.
Is this a Canadian Runner? '98s did not have DRL's in the US. And I've never seen a DRL with two fuses; the US 2000+ DRL's have four. Are you sure it has DRL's? It makes a HUGE difference to how we troubleshoot, since DRL's are hot switched and non-DRL's are ground switched, so we need to know for sure.
