97 SR5 Intake Silencer Removal MOD, SUCCESS!
all I can say is, WOW. Wait one more time.....WOW. this mad injunction w/ the deck plate Mod is amazing. I can feel the improvement not to mention the sound is BADASS. It sounds alot more mean then before. I had people looking at me when I was driving by
Probably wondering who that is driving so needlessly fast The pick up on it is much better, when the pass gear hits, it literally just Climbs up to 50 w/ no problem. You can feel it just hits, It was giving me butteflies in the stomach. I did the dirty tape method and I plan on getting the OEM 99-2001 replacement stuff. Anywho, I love this mod! It is amazing. Thank you to Dr. Z and everyone else who helped me do this. And thank you so much for your patients, for me it was kinda like a crash corse in car part terminology. Awesome! Thanks! |

Yea, I love it. I can actually get to 50 miles per hour quite quickly now, and Getting on the Freeway is a sinch. If i just lay on the pedal I can climb to 70 miles per hour very nicely. This mod make the Deck plate mod look funny. Meaning, Its like the deck plate mod Times 10. Ihave a question, does the engien SUCK in air or is it simply getting air from when I move the car forward? YOu know what I mean?

I prepared my "intake silencer/torque reducer" replacement tube this weekend, but ran out of time to do the actual swap. :-(
Did I read somewhere that, if I were to add a supercharger, I'd need to reinstall the intake silencer (due to certain hose attachment points)? Also, if anyone out there has already installed a supercharger in a '99 4Runner and wants to give me some feedback on installation and the results, I'd appreciate it. Just e-mail me at: N8RV@gte.net Thanks! -- Don |

Glassjaw:
Can you compare the sound to say, the deckplate sound? When I did the deckplate, I noticed there was a noticeable but not too loud increase in sound. How loud would you say this intake mod is compared to the deckplate? I'd like to do it but I don't want to scare the neighbors or have my clients think I'm driving some souped up import. Bob |

Ok fellas, I just installed my S/C and the only line that I have left going to the silencer box is the power steering line, where do I "t" this one for the intake silencer mod on my 1997??
Ignore the second line that has the ?? above it, i now have it hooked up...

T it into the EVAP line. That's the line that runs across the engine bay and attaches the airbox just upstream from the MAF. It's about 3/8" in size. It should be clamped onto the silencer just below the line that runs to your PSP. The hoses that go to the PSP are for the "idle up" function. When you turn the wheels while the engine is idling, the idle up function keeps the engine from stalling when you put a load on the PSP. The 98 and newer trucks have an electric idle up and do not have the hoses going to the PSP. Hope this helps. Dr. Z |

Thanks Dr. I will check it out tonight and see where that line is. The line where I had the ?? (in the picture) was extended to the evap line on the drivers side into the supercharger. So i must be putting this "t" into the other evap line non vac line...

I can see the EVAP line I am speaking of in your picture. It is the furthest forward of the vacuum lines in that picture. It does not attach the SC in any way other than the support clamp on the driver's side.
Hope that helps narrow it down. Dr. Z |
