97 4-runner w/ 5sp & 5vz-fe clutch issues

Today I was driving home and was going up a hill and felt some slippage in 5 gear as well as 4th.
I am curious about what this may be. My first guess is the clutch, I am new to the ownership of the yota and was told by the previous owner that he replaced the clutch 1.5 years ago. I am calling BS on that. But before I tair into the clutch I was just wondering if there other things I should check before I do this.

Help is much appriciated.

If its slipping, I would be looking at the clutch. First, make sure the clutch is adjusted to specs according to your factory service manual. If it is, then i would look at the clutch. If he used a cheap taiwan clutch and was hard on it, 1.5 years of abuse will certainly wear it down faster than normal.

That is what I am guessing he did as well. I have looked as some Exedy clutches, but what other after market clutches would be worth looking at?
I am turning 33/12.50x15's
