Question 96 Tacoma 4x4 key won't turn

I have a '96 Tacoma and I can't get the key to turn. At first the key was stuck in the ignition but I was finally able to get it out. I sprayed a little WD40 in the key hole and the key goes in and out with a little persuasion but now I can't turn the ignition at all. There is no tension on the steering wheel lock. I'm sure I need a new ignition cylinder but from what I can gather in order to remove the old cylinder the key needs to be in the "accessory" position before the release button can be depressed to slide it out. Any hints or suggestions?

Drill it out

Unless you can convince the key cylinder to turn by slightly more forceful methods...

I've tried to force it but...

I've tried to force it but it won't budge, I'm afraid to turn too hard because I can feel the key start to bend and I'm afraid it will break off.
