I will look into that but can't imagine those being bad? I replaced the stock shocks a couple years ago with Bilstein shocks.

I was getting a noise like that a while ago and I found out that the panhard rod bolt had been worn down, so it was thinner and the rod was allowed to move, only a 1/32" or so but was enough to make noise. Good Luck.

panhard rod bolt? Could you elaborate a little more on what that part is, where and how to tell it's bad?
thanks |

The panhard rod is what keeps your axle from going side to side. It it the long rod that goes from your frame on the passenger side down to your axle on the driver side. I would just go under any try to move it, if it has any play remove the bolt and see it the bolt gets narrower in the middle. If so go to the hardware store and get a new one.

hmm...still not sure what this is? This thing is located at the rear but goes from left to right on the vehicle? I will try and locate this thing tonight.

on the back side of the rear axle between the axle and where the spare resides. it will be about 1" in diameter and will cross from the frame of the runner on the pass side to the axle housing on the driver side. there are bolts in each end for it to pivot on. those bolts wear, allowing play in the panhard and can cause noise.

I pulled on the panhard rod and did not produce any movement, back to square one.

Here is a link to your CV question. I have just repalced my axel. In the process I found my ball joint had a small tear on the rubber. It was harder to remove the ball joint than to remove the axel. Anyway, my truck is still apart. Hopefully after I put my truck together the clunk, thunk or popping noise goes away. I have 94 4X4 SR5 with 110K miles.
I was told by a axel rebuilding shop that a CV is bad when you take a very sharp turn forward or back and you hear a clanking noise. If you dont hear it, then the problem is not CV related....just my 1 cent. Replacing the axcel because the cv boot tore is easy enough. You just need the right sockets and wrenches. Oh, a breaker bar and PB helps. Keep us posted with your issue please. I would like to know how you resolve it. http://www.yotatech.com/showthread.php?t=63913 |
