if your just going for the look, then you can just run a dummy pipe on the driver side. I think jasonB has a working one though. not sure

If you can't do the real thing then don't do it at all;while it's not a performance enhancer it's still a step above fake "rice". I do it if I had the money but I'm just gonna go with a simple catback.

JasonB's is a dummy pipe. The only way to run a true, functional dual exhaust on a 3rd gen is to remove the spare tire. Such is life....

You know what I think I am going to do it it would be a simple cat back system but with a dummie pipe and so what if its fake,
it's just for the looks, and how many things do we do to our trucks just for the looks.

I have a question. If you are going to make a dummy pipe, are you going to take that pipe all the way to the actual exhaust pipe? If you are then it shouldn't be hard to just splice it in. Just a thought.

Oh...think about this one. I saw a chevy truck the other day where they had spliced onto the tail pipe end, then ran it across under the bumper and put 4 ends tacked onto it out the back!!!!!....The ends were not even lined up and level.
It was horrible!!!

i've seen another case on here somewhere that the 4Runner had a 3" body lift and the pipe was routed over the spare tire. but this is a lot of trouble just for dual exhaust. go with dummy pipe or remove the spare tire.

You don't have to run it all the way out the back! Just dump the duals in front of the rear tires. You could even do pipes that exit out the sides under the rear doors. Just watch out for the Co2 coming back inside.

Hey Tomsriv;
Anyone with a 3rd Gen. 4Runner can not dump the exhaust out in front of driver-side rear tire cause the Gas tank is right there pretty much against the rear axle!! I think the only way to get around not removing the spare is if maybe you go with a smaller spare tire, maybe it will give you a little more space!! And of course if you have a body lift will help as well!!!

Hey 97Limited! I'm from Vancouver, BC as well....I swear I've seen your truck on Robson before....I noticed it and saw the dual exhaust pipes...very nice ride!
As for adding dual exhaust...I really like the way Jason's turned out. I say go for it if you like it. Maybe they can fab it in such a way that if you ever relocate the spare tire later on, they can connect the dummy pipe to make it a fully functional system. Good luck! |

Really? There are several vehicles that come from the factory with this setup ie. Ford's SVT lineup including the rare Explorer SVT.
