96 4 runner power loss

I've been looking into this 96 4 runner a local used dealer has. Its 96 v6 auto thats in pretty good shape. Frame and floor are mint. Rockers need a little work.

Anyways its been sitting around for atleast a year. He had sold it to a guy and the guy didnt make the payments so he took it back. This dealer told me it works great would just need some minor stuff done for mvi from sitting. But he doesnt let you take any of his "as is" rigs for a drive. I talked to a friend of the guy that used to own it and he said it worked great until a sensor went and it lost power so he parked it stoped making payments thats when buddy came and took it.

It still runs but i was told when you hit the gas it has no power. Does this seem like a sensor or something more major? My friend told me buddy used to be able to roast the tires on it which you can tell from the rears, but after the "sensor" went as he says it wont spin them. The motor has 125 000 kms i can prob get it for $800 to $1000. But its hard to buy something that you cant test drive knowing theres something making it lose power.
