95 runner fuel filter /plug wires
I'm going to change the fuel filter on my 95 4runner 3.0 v6 tomorrow. Can someone please tell me were it is located. My worthless Chilton's manual says either on the firewall or back rail depending on model. It would be easier if I new Right were to start. Thanks One more thing has anyone upgraded to bigger spark plug wires like 7mm or something, and was it worth it.

well here I go talking out my ass but I think you should look to the inside of the frame towards top on the passenger side in the area that the hardest to reach. by the tank and tranny and the tortion bars and the break lines....

It probably wiil be up there, because every time i think i'm going to do something that's going to be really simple it turns out to be a pain in the butt

It's there and it is a pain. The gas will run down your arms as you loosen the banjo connectors covering you in flammable substances. Just take it to the dealer or a reliable shop that won't cross thread it.
It's just as bad or worse on a 22re. It's buried under the manifolds...you can't even see it. And you're guarranteed to burn yourself.

It helped me alot when I did it. It has the idea of pulling the fuse and letting the engine go dry.

Here are some other vehicles that I did try wire upgrades on:
1.6L VTEC, upgraded to 8mm magnecor wires, full MSD ignition, and blaster coil. DIDN'T DO SQUAT.
2.2L Mazda, upgraded to Accel wires better coil. DIDNT DO SQUAT
2.6L Toyota straight 6, upgraded to accel wires, DIDNT DO SQUAT.
My opinion is that new wires will restore performance back to stock. So, if your wires are worn out and causing misfires, then you will in fact "gain" HP, but only back to stock power.

i didn't really think it would make a huge difference, but it had to be better than the 5mm part store special ones . I would even be happy with back to stock HP. my 4runner has 175,00miles on it. I just bought it not to long ago so who knows how long they have been on there.

I used to drive 2 vtec hondas, and still am a strong honda fan... I've upgrade wires in the first honda I drove, and with cold air intake and full catback exhaust I still saw no improvement.
Anyways it's been proven that stock wires are best (or NGK if anything).
This translates to all vehicles.

I changed the spark plugs tonight, and the pcv valve. What a pain in the butt. The worst part is the plug wires that were on it were autolite. The things are so crappy they fell apart when i was changing them. I was carefully pully them, and the wires were breaking. Oh well I'll get new ones tomorrow.

I'm sure this will get someone screeming but... I bought my new plugs,cap,rotor and wires at NAPA ( a hush falls over the crowd ) they sell a lot of styles and will special order stuff. I've run the "good" NAPA brand in my CJ-5 and have taken the jeep through lots of water, I was swimming out for a tow rope. its been on its top, I have headers so its really hot in there when your going really slow. well that was the long story here is the short. my Jeep takes all the abuse and the truck has all the fun, if those wires cap and rotor work well in my POS CJ they will love the protected enviroment of the TOYOTA. if you want to feel like your driving a new truck try changing to manual hubs not a huge power diff but you will feel like you are driving not guiding your truck and it helped with my MPG also ( just over 1 mpg ) I will take any help I can get.

Well I can tell you this, buy the factory wires.
Toyotas like factory wires,cap,and rotors.
The time I spent in a dealer i learned alot about what these vehicles"like" as far as maintenance parts.
Toyota "like" factory stuff- as far as ignition goes.
Usually if we had a vehicle that was missing or ran like crap it was almost always due to crappy aftermarket ignition components. Sounds crazy but its true. These vehicles are hard to kill.
The fuel filter is a pan in the a$$. Big time
If you are not experienced working with fuel line and the fun that can be had.... Then take it to the dealer. This is not the job you want to learn on.
On our Runners it is very easy to bugger up the threads.
I've done it- and it sucks. You have to replace the fual line.
Its worth the $$$ to get someone who has done them before to do it.
Especially if you have over 60K on your Runner.

I ended up going with ngk plugs and factory wires, and it runs a whole lot better. It seems to have a litlle more pep. I'm sure it's because of how bad the old plugs and wires were, and now having all the new stuff. I'm a happy camper . I think I'll probably just take it in for the fuel filter, and save myself the headache.
