95.5 Tacoma check engine light/probs
I need to know if anybody knows how to read the check engine light code by jumping the plug where the computer plugs into? I have done this on Fords and GM vehicles but have never done it on a Toyota. I have a
95.5 Tacoma 4wd, man tran, the only modification is a K&N air filter that came on the truck when I got it. After a full tune up including map and oxygen sensors the truck still runs like crap. If you go at the throttle real easy it is okay but if step on it from a dead stop, it bogs down like its choking. I can't figure it out and have yet to find anybody who can. Any ideas on anything to check? anything?

Your 95.5 has OBDII, which requires a code reader to pull the codes. Any local Autozone should do this for you, or at least rent you the tool for free.
Once that's done..search that code number, and post it up!

Okay, I checked the code with a reader and it came back 420 which according to the other threads out here is the catalytic converter. I know it might not be exactly that but with just changing the oxygen sensors recently and a new cat put on back in Feb/Mar could it be the cat already? I would like some advice on my next step before I dump any more money into this situation. I also replaced the throttle positioning sensor a while ago. I really need some help here so I can go through the emmission test and get my plate renewed.

The latest and greatest: Had a master technician check it out and it is the Throttle positoning sensor needing to be calibrated. I did replace this but never was sure were to set it. I guess you need an oscilliscope or something to calibrate it. It is scheduled to be worked on soon. Thanks for all the help.

Completely stumped!!!! Help! Tacoma truck
After the tech supposedly calibrated the TPS, I almost got killed because the truck stalled out on me pulling out of the parking lot. Got a complete refund so on to the next chapter.
Check engine light is still coming on and if you clear it it comes back in about 30 miles. This time the code is 0420, catalyst below effiency?threshold? Does this mean the catlytic conv is bad? If not what does everybody think?
It hasnt been that long ago that I replaced the catalytic conv, Feb/Mar.
