95 4Runner altutude problem
My question is: Is there altitude compensation on the 3.0 '95 4runner? My 4runner turns into a real dog above 9000 feet. Other 4runners pass me on steep highway grades, so I am sure I have a problem. There is no miss, just no power.
I have checked all the obvious stuff.
Thanks for any help!!

Sounds normal to me. The 3.0's altitude compensation is handled by the computer and there really isn't much you can do unless you spend most of your time at very high altitude, although I'm not sure any of the suggestions (changing timing, different plugs, high octane gas) really work. I can say that the 5spd 3.0's are much better than the autos, especially at elevation. Same goes for the 2.4's vs. 3.0's at elevation; they just seem to adjust better. The only auto 3.0's that pass me heading up the hills are running over 4k rpms the whole time.
If you've got a problem, it should show up all the time. The only possible culprit would be the ECU and I have no idea how you would test it for altitude related issues.

I never have had a problem with this issue, but I have always run the intake mod and a high flow exhaust to help with the increased air flow demands up high. Mind you I am almost always at high altitude due to where i live
