91 v6 o2 sensor

Ok my 91 4runner is only getting about 230 miles to the tank andI've replaced everything except the o2 sensor.Would a bad sensor effect gas mileage that bad without the truck running bad or puffing out black smoke? It runs great, doesn't smoke or anything. It does have 178,000 on it though.I know that automatic v6 4runners are not good on gas but I think it should be a little better than that.

Dude, my 91 3.slow also gets 230 miles to the tank. I think it's normal. Do you use AC alot??

Yes, Your mpg should be better than that. Did you just notice that your mpg was going down or has it always been this bad? There's many things that will affect your mpg's:
1. running rich
2. in need of a full tune-up
3. o2 sensor bad
4. Oversize tires
5. an auto trans.
6. Under inflated tires
7. Stop and go driving
I get 21 -24 mpg on my 3.0 w/a 5speed and 31" tires.
Good Luck!

Well I bought it in march and it's been that way ever since.I did a full tune up on it,The timing belt replaced,The injector seals were leaking so I had them replced too.It is an auto and the tires are regular old 235/75/15's.I have an 87 with some mods and 33's with stock gearing that has more get up and better mileage than my 91.The 91 is my family car.I live in the mountains so I have a lot of hills.I was thinking of having it re geared.

I dont even get that many miles
Ive replace the plugs, cap & fuel filter, even disconected the egr.
The only thing major i havent done is my O2 sensor, but its rusted on(well the nuts anyway),so i cant replace it easily untill i put on a new exhaust system. The biggest problem is that the O2 sensor is going to cost about the same as the new exhaust.so i have to save up even more money,at the same time as pouring fuel in the bloody thing.
Its lucky ive just got a new job which has given me a company car to use.

Using Auto-Rx took my mileage from the 220's to the 250's in the city and from 250 to 290 Highway.

Haven't changed the sensor in my Runner, but in two other cars it improved mileage by nearly 2 mpg.
