91 dies at redlights

I own a 91 v6 3.0 4x4 pickup and recently it has been dieing at red lights. The truck runs fine if I press the gas just alittle. The truck has always had a little shake idiling but now it really shakes. The spark plugs, wires, distributor and rotor are all in good condition. I love this truck and hope it is nothing serious. Any advice would be helpful.

Sounds like your TPS(Throttle Position Sensor) is out. A tuneup should fix this, or do a search on the TPS and find out how to adjust it. I've only done this on another car, not my yota, so I can't help ya out.

If you are going to check the TPS, here is a great page on it.

Other things I would check:
1. Fuel Filter - this sounds like a very good possibility.
2. Timing
3. Air Filter

Good Luck

EDIT: How many miles do you have?

FYI If that is not it, or befor you do all that, My 91 runner was doing the same thing one day when I started it. I did a modified version of the air intake modification, and the (excuse my not knowing of proper terms) air tube going into the motor by the oil cap was off. I noticed it was running a bit off when driving over, so I guess it was a bit loose then. Never knwo might be that simple

Usually, when an AFM goes out, the vehicle will idle, but as soon as you give it gas, it dies. Those are the "usual" symptoms. Either way, if your AFM died, you could pull the plug and start up the motor. If your truck runs fine "at idle" with the plug removed, then your AFM needs to be replaced.

As I think about it though, it sounds like you have a major vacuum leak.

The hose that sport jr is talking about is a recirculator hose for the crank case. I don't think that this would be causing your problem. It should run with this hose disconnected, however it would not be safe.

Thanks for all your replies. I actually cleaned the throttle body and that stoped the dieing; however it still acts like it is going to die if I cut the engine off for 15-20 min. and go back and start it again. Now also the clutch is making a squeling sound when I star it in the morning.
