If you have a Runner the 22re is a bad idea. You're Runner won't be able to get out of its own way. Even if its a truck I still wouldn't do it. Many people say the 3.0 is unreliable etc. I don't. Never had any problems with mine and have 210,000 miles. I had two trucks with the 22re. Major dogs. Going from a 3.0 to the 22re would be like going from the 3.4 to the 3.0.
If you're really into swaping a 4cyl from a 6 cyl, some guys on the Pirate board have done a 2.7 swap. Same power as the 3.0. You'll still need engine, ECU, bell housing, new exhaust, etc.

Yeah, sorry, but that's a really dumb idea. The only reason you hear bad things about the 3.0 is the old (history) head gasket problem. The reason they don't make the 2nd gen runners with the 22re is because you wouldn't be able to out accelerate a freakin' big rig. The 3.0 is fine if you didn't buy your rig for speed. I gave up a fast car for a slow truck which equals a good trade in my opinion, but why would you go the route you want to go?
