88 rear window switch: different?
I'm having a hard time debugging this problem, maybe one of you guys can help me out. My friend just got an '88 SR5 4Runner. It's definately a fixer upper. So last weekend our job was to get the rear window to work. We ripped everything apart and fixed the broken parts, and it works beautifully now. The only problem is that the console switch for the rear window was broken. The previous owner just had a ground wire hanging out of the console, and you just touch it to the one side of the switch and the window goes up, and the other side to make the window go down. So we know that the relay and the motor are both good. It also works with the key in the back.
So we go to the junkyards and find that there are only two rear window switches in the whole denver area at two different junkyards on the opposite side of town. Long story short, we go to both junkyards and neither switch works when we plug it into the console. Our trusty multimeter said that the switches were good, but they just didn't work in the truck.
My question is: is the switch for an '88 different than other switches. Maybe the junkyards just have them labeled as first gen switches. I'm pretty confident that the plug end in the console is good, because when we ground it, the window works. Or is there some other thing that we need to check out first? I'm almost ready to pull my '89 rear window switch out and put it in his truck just to see if it works.
Thanks!

AFAIK, all 1st gen 4Runners use the same switch. Did you take them apart and clean off the contacts? This is a common problem with an easy fix.

switch
There are two switches that i've found but they each have different plugs so if yours still has its original harness plug then if the one you have plugs in,thats the switch. Like the last guy suggessted it's probablly the contacts this is a problem with all the relays and switches on 4runners.
